I’ve been playing guitar for 21 years and have been playing bass and guitar professionally for the past 9 years. I studied jazz guitar at Triton College and University of Illinois Chicago and have a wide range of experiences from playing in original metal bands, working in rock/pop cover bands, to performing with some of Chicago’s most notable jazz musicians. I’ve been teaching for over two years and I believe that we learn music like we learn language. It is important to learn scales, chords, reading, and music theory in the same way that we learn spelling and grammar. But in order to find your own voice you have to listen to great musicians, transcribe their ideas, and use what you learn to develop your musical vocabulary. I’ve taught several students from beginners to advanced players and strive to keep them disciplined but always leave room for fun.
